How to use the Synology USB Printer Server

The Synology Server has a built-in USB Printer Server. When used in conjunction with a compatible USB printer, the printer can be seen from across the local network, with the Synology System as a host. This allows for small offices to share printers across many computers, without the need for purchasing the multiple amounts of printers for each computer, allowing for greater efficiently with IT resources.

Known Limits[edit]

  • Only one USB Printer can be shared on the Synology System
    • Two USB printers is supported in firmware DSM 2.1-0803 and above.
  • For Multifunction printers, only the printing function is supported
  • For Macintosh use, a PostScript compliant printer must be used.
